With 2015 around the corner, New Year's resolutions are a popular topic of conversation. Whether it's getting in shape or finally starting my own business, one thing is clear - I will be more thankful for what I have. It's very easy to overlook very basic aspects of life especially with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I had the opportunity to work at 3 technology companies in the Bay Area (one of them being Google!), I got engaged to the man of my dreams, and got licensed to sell life insurance (beginning my own firm is a very real possibility now).
When I was in college, our director of cultural affairs at UC Davis once told me, "When given a point of privilege, it's your responsibility to help others." I never understood how I could do that, but after discovering and re-discovering myself I think the answer is more clear. I enjoy working for my current company very much, but I don't want to lose the desire to start my own company. Whether it's a career in selling life insurance, writing a blog, recording a YouTube channel, or starting a new company from scratch I want to make my career my own. Starting a non-profit to support my grandfather's health clinic is what I can do to give back to the community I am from.
Leaving Google this year was heart wrenching, but it was truly an experience that will define me for the rest of my life. If anyone is take the road untraveled - it's me. I've never been scared to challenge the status quo or do something different, and I know that this quality will help me start my company and be successful. Breaking things, and starting over is what life is all about to stay innovative.
On top of all that, I'm excited to get married! He truly is my best friend on all levels and I can't imagine going into 2015 with anyone other than him. Goodbye 2014, Hello to a prosperous 2015!
xoxo
